As you know, in a recent post, I expressed my love and longing for Pizza King pizza, in Royal Thin Crust Pizza (which is where we‘ll get the pizza crust recipe from). But did you know my absolute FAVORITE Pizza King pizza is their BBQ and Ham pizza?
In a Facebook post, Pizza King Indiana stated they used to use Kraft Open Pit BBQ Sauce for their barbecue pizzas, but are no longer using it. I was lucky to find the sauce at my local grocery store so I could make my own home version of the BBQ and Ham Pizza (actually Jon found the sauce, it was a team effort).
Just thinking about barbecue and ham pizza is making me hungry! I love the tangy barbecue sauce with the salty ham and combination of melted mozzarella and provolone cheeses! I can’t wait to get this into the oven!!! Time for my happy dance!
*A lot of times I will use a store-bought pizza crust instead of making it from scratch. I don’t always have the time nor patience to make crust. Some grocery stores have fresh pizza dough in their deli or bakery areas. If you choose this route, roll the dough out thinly, and be sure to still prick the dough with a fork to keep it from puffing up during the par-bake. Cooking temperature may vary depending on what the package states.
Ingredients:
2 and ½ cups all purpose flour, plus 2-3 tbsp extra flour (if dough is too sticky)
Extra flour for dusting work surface
1 cup water
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup deli sliced ham, cut into 1 inch squares
Kraft Open Pit BBQ sauce
1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese
2 cups mozzarella cheese
1/2 tsp dried dill
Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together in a mixing bowl.
Stir the water and olive oil into the flour gently and slowly, until a dough forms.
You may need to add a few extra tablespoons of flour so the dough isn’t so sticky.
Let the dough rest for about 5-10 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat a pizza stone and oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
Dust your work surface and top of dough with a little extra flour. Roll the dough with a rolling pin until it reaches 16 inches in diameter. The crust should be thin.
Transfer the dough carefully to the preheated pizza stone and bake for about 5-8 minutes.
Remove the crust from the oven, carefully (use your oven mitts!), and spread the barbecue sauce evenly on the crust. Be sure to go clear to the edges.
I tend to go heavy on the sauce, because I LOVE the sauce on this pizza. If you don’t want as much, you can try reducing to 3/4 of a cup of sauce.
Place the slices of ham around the pizza on top of the sauce.
Spread the cheeses evenly over the ham.
Sprinkle the dill over the top of the cheese.
Bake on 450 degrees Fahrenheit for about 12-15 minutes.
Cut the Barbecue and Ham Pizza into squares.
I’m dancing and jumping up and down because this pizza is so good and tastes almost exactly like the restaurant’s version. If you’re a Pizza King lover, get your happy dance on!

Melissa, have you been able to replicate the Pizza Ling breadsticks? Muncie is my hometown, but now I’ve lived in the south for almost 9 years and boy do I miss those half-baked PK breadsticks with the cheese dip! Of course there’s the dill butter on top, but I loved their light density! Thanks so much for the pizza recipes- I’m inspired!

Back home again in Muncie! I moved back almost 5 years ago after living in MI for over 20 years. I am 51 and still love my Pizza King! Have you considered adding a Pinterest share? I tried to pin some of your recipes and couldn’t. Pinterest is my enormous online cookbook

Yes, you’re right the restaurant puts pineapple on it. Growing up I didn’t like pineapple, so I always ordered it without pineapple. Feel free to add it to the pizza 🙂
