I started making this cocktail after I tasted a really good old fashion at a local distillery. After trying other old fashions at other bars and restaurants, no others really compared. I set out to learn how to make my own at home. Let me tell you, I think I make one of the best ones around. I like having a good balance of not being too sweet while still being able to taste and appreciate the bourbon. This is one of my favorite cocktails to make.
I am not affiliated with any of the brands listed and this is not a sponsored post. They are the brands I use to make this cocktail and really like them.
Ingredients:
1 block of clear ice
Ice for the mixing glass
1 Maraschino cherry (I use Luxardo)
2 ounces bourbon
2 drops orange bitters (I use Woodford Reserve)
0.25 ounces demerara syrup (I use Jack Rudy Cocktail CO.)
0.25 ounces old fashion cocktail syrup (I use Woodford Reserve brand)
1 orange peel
Let’s start making the drink!
Fill a cocktail mixing glass halfway with ice. Add the clear ice to a lowball glass.
Add the cherry to the lowball glass
Add the bourbon, bitters, and syrups to the mixing glass.
Using a cocktail spoon, swirl the mixture together to combine.
Top the mixing glass with a strainer and pour the old fashion cocktail over the block of ice in the lowball glass.
Run the orange peel around the rim of the lowball glass, then twist the peel and add as a garnish to the drink.
Voila! Slyh in the Kitchen’s Old Fashion Cocktail is ready to drink!
